September 2017 - May 2021

At Newsy, I worked closely in collaboration with journalists to translate complex concepts touched upon in their stories into visuals that were easy to understand.

Because of the wide array of topics within the field of journalism, each story I worked on varied drastically between each, requiring fast and proactive learning, an active imagination and immediate problem solving.

First and foremost, the essence of the story and the values of clear journalism always mattered more than the quality of the design and animation.

I created at least 5+ motion graphics per week (well over 200 in total), all of which were created from the ground up daily for live television.

Within a matter of hours from receiving a script, I achieved the following:

  • conceptualized each visual idea and storyboard within an hour or less

  • designed characters, landscapes and soundscapes

  • developed reusable styles and designs for recurring pieces

  • maintained reliable workflow for journalists to communicate their ideas

  • balanced clarity of journalism with quality of design and movement

I also had the opportunity to instruct graduate and undergraduate journalism students in animation software and fundamentals.
